I have just bought myself a new pair of Dunlop wellington boots.
I noticed on the sole it says ‘Made in Portugal‘ and thought “I wonder who actually makes Dunlop boots“?
Now that may seem a stupid question, but when I was looking to buy tyres for my car I discovered that these days Dunlop tyres are owned and made by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Goodyear actually own several tyre brands, as well as Goodyear and Dunlop they make Fulda and Sava tyres.
A bit of digging revealed that Dunlop broke up back in the 1980s. The sports division combined with the Slazenger brand which Dunlop had previously acquired, these are now owned by Sports Direct International.
The old Dunlop company made a lot of different things and the Wikipedia link above shows who know owns what rights over the brand.
