It was lunchtime and my belly was rumbling as I drove past Tesco earlier today so I pulled in to grab a sandwich.

Tesco Garlic & Herb Chicken

Perusing the chilled cabinet that held a varied array of sandwiches I spotted a cardboard pack that declared it contained a Tesco Garlic & Herb Chicken Wrap. Mmm I thought that sounds tasty and grabbed one and headed for the checkout.

Sadly when I got back to the car eager to devour my purchase I found myself disappointed. I couldn’t taste any trace of garlic, nor was there any hint of anything tasting remotely of herbs. In my bland wrap there was just fairly tasteless chicken in a completely nondescript dressing.

Oh well £2.20 wasted and a lesson learnt. I’ll not be fooled by over optimistic Tesco descriptions in a hurry again.

I picked up a copy of Saturday’s Daily Mail and flicked through it while out earlier. One article caught my eye and I looked it up when I got home. Here it is “Rescuing a snail? That’s a job for the fire service… Brigade spent millions rescuing 17,000 animals“.

On first glance it looks like public money is being wasted on spurious Fire Brigade call outs. On deeper reading this statement is more disturbing “The Freedom of Information request, sent to 56 fire and rescue services, showed they had rescued 17,000 animals in the past three years. The cost was £3.5million“.

Some journalist looking for an easy story has sent loads of Freedom of Information requests out to Fire Brigade authorities around the country who have then been obliged to waste taxpayers money compiling these statistics.

I’m all for open government and a supporter of freedom of information but this takes the proverbial yellow liquid. Perhaps the Freedom of Information act needs to be amended so that those in the media looking for an easy story have to cover the costs they cause.

Petrol and diesel prices seem to be spiralling ever higher. I do silly mileages for my work so I’m always on the lookout for the cheapest diesel I can get.

Some time ago I came across PetrolPrices.com, a useful price comparison website for fuel.

Put in your post code or town and your choice of fuel and they return a list of the local prices, allowing you to plan where to buy your fuel to get the best deal .They get their data on fuel prices in individual service stations from fuel card transactions allowing them to keep up to date.

Below is a live feed from the site of their overall figures for the whole of Dorset.

At first I thought it was sweet, the latest TV advert for online dating site match.com. You know he one, a guy with a guitar and a girl on piano serenading each other in a music shop. But after seeing it over and over in what feels like every ad break, and even though the girl (actress Amber Anderson) is rather cute, it’s really beginning to get on my nerves.

While out and about at the weekend I ended up in a kebab shop that I frequent often enough for the staff to know me.

I was shocked by the cost of my order! Looking at the price board above the counter the prices that I remembered from before had gone up by about 20%. I guess they were using the VAT increase as a means of getting away with this huge price hike.

Feeling ripped off means I won’t be going back in a hurry.
