I spotted that Lidl had listed a Cartronic remote control helicopter as being on sale in their stores for £19.99 from the 16th of December 2013.
Deciding to try and find out some more about Lidl’s CARTRONIC Gyro Toy Helicopter I searched Google and discovered several suggestions that these Catronic models were based on the Syma S107 RC helicopter.
There are on-line shops selling the Syma S107 cheaper than the Lidl machine, including Rakuten Play.com.
Looking at images of the Syma S107 and Lidl RC helicopter both the chopper itself and the remote controller look remarkably similar.
I had seen similar rechargeable infra red remote control helicopter that a friend owned, it looked a lot of fun. These little 3 channel indoor only RC helicopters are easy to fly thanks to their two rotor gyroscopic system.
They have an internal rechargeable battery that charges from either a USB lead which is supplied or from the batteries in the remote controller. The remote unit is powered by AA batteries.
I see Aldi are also offering a IR RC helicopter from Sunday the 15th, theirs is called a Gyro Bladez and is obviously a different machine to the Lidl one.
UPDATE: As I write this (November 2014) I see 7DayShop have KingCO K10 remote control helicopters on sale from just £8.99
The web site RC Mania have produced a video review and demonstration of the Syma S107G, watch it below.
