Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Mackerel Bap

Wandering around Weymouth recently I spotted the advertising board pictured below for the Marlboro restaurant and take-away.

The thing that caught my eye was the prominence of the offering of ‘Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s Mackerel Bap’. I was surprised to see his name being used to promote food all the way over in Weymouth.

There seem to be many West Dorset and East Devon residents seem to dislike Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, but whatever you think of him he has certainly had an effect on the local economy. Plenty of people come to the area as tourists drawn to eating at the River Cottage Canteen in Axminster, or to the cookery courses at River Cottage HQ who stay in local hotels, guest houses and B&Bs, and who then spend money in our other local retailers.
